After the insanity of our first quarter's ten projects, we slowed down a little bit. The weather got hotter, and many people in our group had more obligations. With that being said, we still managed to tackle seven service projects, which is no small feat!
Below is a summary of all the projects we tackled, and I will highlight a few in more detail in the following paragraphs.
All in all, we accomplished the following: a backyard cleanup, building a fence for an elderly couple, removing trees off of a garage, metal blade weed eating a property, more yard work, painting the new middle school building for the Christian Learning Center in Blue Ridge, and cutting up stumps for a church plus fixing their zipline for their kids program.
Here are some highlights:
I imagine that reading about multiple trees laying on someone's garage sticks out a bit and requires some explanation. One of our young adults managed to get his own house in Epworth, Georgia. He's been slowly building it up over the last couple of years. As an electrician, he is very hardworking and motivated, dedicating time to fix his home after long work hours, over weekends, and when he has additional time and energy. Unfortunately, a recent storm dropped three trees on his garage which, thank God, didn't destroy it, but the trees desperately needed to be removed. He is not one to ask for help, but we knew he needed it. We gathered a group of guys out there almost immediately. They removed all the trees, cut everything up, and expected nothing in return.
Service projects aren't just for the elderly or poverty stricken communities we serve, but also for young adults striving to make ends meet. We often see younger people feel guilty or unworthy of service due to their youth, but that makes us want to help them even more. Those who serve should be served also!
Next, over the course of nearly a week, we had a unique and exciting opportunity to paint the outside of the Christian Learning Center's new building. They are preparing it for future middle schoolers who plan to take CLC's elective bible classes. We greatly support their cause, which is so needed in our area, and we thank God for the CLC and their team. The painting job went great, and our guys were invited to attend the official opening for the middle school building when everything was done.
As always, I want to thank our prayer warriors and donors for their support over the second quarter. Also thank you to our young adults; just knowing that you support us helps empower us to do what we do. So from all 35 of us to you, we thank you 🙏 Blessings!
