July was quite a month for community service projects, as our group was set to task on three different homes. The biggest of these projects was Tammy's home in Blairsville GA. This is a five to six phase basement remodel we are working on for her and her husband.
The long and short of the story is that Tammy suffers from a rare medical condition that attacks the collagen in her body, which is the stuff that helps bind our bodies together. That, along with the coinfections that naturally arise from such an illness, creates havoc within the body. She has been wrestling with it since she was a teenager and now has three grown children. Between that, the rental situation they are under, and other economic challenges, they are in desperate need of a place to live among other needs. This basement we are remodeling is part of a two story home that they own. The house wasn't built correctly, and the basement flooded, ruining the downstairs. With her daughter living upstairs, who also has medical issues, this left them to seek refuge elsewhere.
In July, we were able to correct the irrigation issues by doing some re-excavation, digging a French drain, and fixing her culvert. In 2024 we plan to work on the actual remodel of her home. Please pray for this couple and the many challenges they are facing.
In addition to that project, we also did some landscaping for an older lady in Blue Ridge, GA, and helped out the Palmers again, this time with roof, soffit, fascia, and gutter repairs.
In August, we did the first part of a complicated project for Patricia out of Ellijay, GA, including drywall repair, decking, and a new toilet.
Moving into September, we finished Patricia's project, but there is still much work needed there. She is living in a house that would normally be condemned, but you live with what you can. She prayed for our guys, and we did our best to encourage her. She remains in good spirits!
To finish out the quarter in September, we helped out Paul who lives in Murphy NC. In an effort to get his child back, he has been working to get his home in order. We were able to help in the process by laying down ceramic flooring in one of his bedrooms.
As you can see, like most months, we find ourselves all over the tri state area. We have cast our net wide, and the Lord has certainly responded. We are surrounded by stories of desperate need and amazing grace! Thank you for your support.
